Corfu Island
A class act in the Ionian that adores the spotlight
Day Trips
The best way to see the island is by boat. Corfu is famed for its glorious waters and little coves and there is no better way to enjoy this than on a boat trip. Boats can be rented from every bay on the island usually, we however recommend, Agni Boats. George and Alex are located on the beach at Agni Bay and have a good selection of boats of all sizes and can provide those with boat licences with some great options should they wish to explore further afield. https://www.agniboats.com/ Please contact George and Alex and tell them that you are staying at Katavolos House and they will be very pleased to help! Daytrips to nearby island, Paxos and Antipaxos are a wonderful way to explore the island. Alternatively why not visit the beautiful archaeological sites of Albania. The ancient deserted village of Old Perithia, north of Kassiopi is also lovely place to visit for a walk around the beautiful deserted buildings before a spot of lunch in one of the authentic Cofiot tavernas.
Fun for the Kids
Aqualand is roughly 40 minutes from the house and is always a fun day out. https://aqualandcorfu.com/ Another option closer to home, is the Ipsos Aqua Arena…. Corfu’s very own wipeout course! Watersports - there are several watersports spots nearby to the house, the closest is based at Nissaki but similarly Kaminaki and Nissaki Beach have options available also.
Museum of Asian Art
At the top end of the 'Spaniada', Corfu Town's central park area, stands the Palace of St Michael and St George. This is the most significant building from the period of English rule and was originally built as the luxury residence of the then British Lord High Commissioner. It's now home to the Corfu Museum of Asian Art - the only one of its kind in Greece, dedicated to the arts of Asia.
Achillion Palace
Built by Elisabeth Empress of Austria this is an important historic building that has been restored with beautiful gardens and exceptional statues inspired by Greek mythology. The huge statue of Achilles (for which the palace is named) is on the highest terrace and should not be missed. From here you get spectacular views towards Corfu town.
Liston
The Liston is the chicest part of town, an elegant piazza-cum-promenade whose arcade is lined with cafés, restaurants and boutiques. Although it dates back to Venetian times, it was the French, during their brief sojourn on the island, who gave it its Parisian feel.
Etrusco
Etrusco – located about 20 minutes from Katavolos, this is a wonderful Greek restaurant. The sister restaurant is located in Athens and they have their Corfu restaurant open each summer and is a very special night out!
Local Tavernas
Taverna Agni One of the best known and loved tavernas on the north east coast. The prawn saganaki and drunken mussels are menu highlights and wonderful position make this a firm favourite. Gallini Taverna Run by the wonderful Nikos and one of the original and best tavernas. Booking a table on the jetty is a highlight and don’t forget to have a Strawberry Daquiri next door at Damianos too! Glyfa Taverna Owned and run by George from Agni Boats family, best accessed when you’ve hired a boat for the day this is a lovely taverna on a pretty beach with delicious food.
Night out
A night out in Corfu Town is highly recommended. Wander the beautiful marble side streets and shops early evening before a lovely supper in one of the many lovely taverna’s throughout the town. Corfu Town is a wonderfully cosmopolitan town and a must see. Start the evening at the rooftop bar at the Cavalieri Hotel is a great starting point for your visit!
